College Student Encouraged By Reddit To Ghost His Bad Manager

Reddit can be an excellent source for anonymous venting, yet this story proves that it can also be used to make productive life decisions, like ghosting your job when your manager treats you like you're less than human.

This thread was posted by Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by user u/American_Psycho34, a full-time college student who requested time off from their gig as a hotel bartender over a month in advance of their first week of classes that semester. When that week finally came around, the student's request was completely ignored by his manager.

According to the Redditor, this manager from Hell claimed that because the student was scheduled for work that week, it was on the student to sort out his shift schedule. The manager refused to discuss the matter further and said he would see the student that Monday.

That's when u/American_Psycho34 turned to Reddit for some advice, and after going through the feedback, he decided to ghost his manager without any notice. Considering that his boss was unwilling to empathize with the Redditor's need to balance work and school, the student owed nothing to his manager in return.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, approximately 40% of full-time undergraduate students were employed in 2020. If nearly half of college students are working jobs on the side, managers need to be willing to empathize with their employees and their school commitments.
